In the middle of running Errands, I discovered ‘Oliviers and Co’ at the Short Hills Mall in New Jersey.
This store named after ‘Oliviers’ (Olive Trees) is only one of a dozen or so opened so far in the US. It is a sister company of ‘L’Occitane en Provence’. They offer a wide range of olive oils, balsamic vinegars and tapenades from around the Mediterranean and other related products.
Even though I was in the store only for a few minutes, I was lucky that Joanne Gocel was there.
She obviously loved what she sold and shared useful information about the origins of the company and its offerings with me.
I did taste 2 olive oils, one was basil scented, the other one mandarin infused. The mandarin infused one was the most interesting one with a long and subtle finish. It reminded me more of tasting wine than oilve oil. Joanne told me that it could be a wonderful addition to cakes and ice-cream.
The black olive tapenade was worth the try, then I had to leave unfortunately.
If you do not have a chance to visit one of their stores, their website has a lot of useful information including some recipes.
