One in while, I realize how long I have been in the States when something happening in France is unknown to me. ‘Le Sizzle in the Drizzle‘ by Isabel Best in Saturday’s Financial Times was one of these moments when I discovered a (new to me) parisian event called Nuit Blanche or White Night /Sleepless Night if you prefer. The first Nuit Blanche was in 2002. This year’s edition takes place on Saturday, October 7 from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.
For details on the program, visit the Nuit Blanche Website (in French only).
You can find out about events happening in each Quartier (neighborhood) of Paris .
About 30 Restaurants and Bars will also stay open all night. 2200 green and white bicycles will be available for free (with security deposit) so revellers can go from one event to the other without sweating about parking.
The Nuit Blanche success has inspired other cities around Europe to stage their own edition as you can see on the poster illustrating this post.
In the spirit of cultural exchange each event is presenting a project by an artist from one of the other cities.
New York, Tokyo and Rio are considering holding their own Nuit Blanche in the future.
Toronto just held its first edition this past week-end.
So if you are in Paris an October 7 get dazzled with a Nuit Blanche of Culture.
