Want to have a feel of what Christmas was like back in 19th century England, travel all the way up to Cumbria and take a Victorian Christmas Tour of Muncaster Castle.
It is described as "a secretive tour of some of the Castle by the servants, although care
must be taken not to disturb Lord Muncaster sleeping off his Christmas
feasting upstairs".
You will be treated to minced pies and mulled wine.
This Christmas treat takes place on December 27, 28 and 29 with 3 time slots each day (4Pm, 5pm, 6pm).
Reservations (by phone only it seems) are needed.
Additional attractions at the castle include the Gardens and an Owl Center. Dogs are welcome in both of them.
According to to Enjoy England’s North Country Muncaster Castle has been the home of the Pennington family since 1208 and has the distinction of being considered one of the most haunted house in the UK.
My illustration comes from the North Country site which is looking to attract more of us US residents to this area.
