From the religious celebrations to dramatic reenactments of Christian history, Easter in Argentina will not leave you indifferent.
The official site of Argentina shares all it can on Easter Week.
I especially noticed amongst their highlights "the Burning of Judas, a ritual where a real size effigy of Judas Iscariot, filled in with fireworks and salt is burned" in the aptly named city of Salta.
In the grand productions department "the dramatization of the Passion, known as “Jesus Christ’s Passion in
Tafí”, set amidst the natural sorroundings provided by the “Sanión”
grounds that perch on the Tafí del Valle hills, where hundreds of
actors dramatize the striking developments of Jesus’s Passion, Death
and Resurrection".
Gauchos come center stage in "the town of Quilmes is the seat to the Family, Easter and Tradition
Festivity, a full-day event where gaucho groups, “copleras” (popular
folk song singers) and the town’s people gather to escort the Virgen
del Valle (the local Virgin)"
Want to treat your ears to some classical music, the 8th International Caminos del Vino Festival (program in Spanish only) is in full swing in Mendoza until March 23rd.
More of a big city type, Buenos Aires offers more events than you can handle from March 16 to March 30th in their 5 Page Guide (English version for this one), on the menu, theater, photography, music in all stripes (with some bandoneon of course) and much more.
That’s all!
