Fees are a bank’s best friend!
What does he mean?
It is a quick and easy way to make a quick few bucks here and there.
Well it is if all your competition does the same.
You would think now that banks need to repair their bottom lines after gambling on the housing market they would pamper their retail customers.
Aren’t we a cheap source of capital for them?
Some like Bank of America don’t think so.
I was warned a few weeks back that they would start charging monthly fees on a small account I have.
They just went ahead and did it.
Well, after their first warning, I checked the competition and found that TD Banknorth was amongst those more customer friendly.
I might now vote with my feet and close both my small account and a bigger one at BofA and transfer them to a if not Fee Free at least Fee Less zone.
Will we see rulings in the US similar than the recent one in the UK as reported by Banks lose overdraft charges case (BBC, April 24, 2008)?
