The Evening Standard calls it London’s biggest end of Summer party.
Over the September 13-14 week-end, London will buzz with excitement as the Thames Festival takes over its land and waters.
You could start Saturday with Feast on the Bridge described as "a spectacular communal ‘harvest supper’ that reconnects an urban public with the growing cycle. There will be feasting, dancing and entertainment from 12pm to 10pm with delicious food and entertainment throughout the day. There’s a food ceremony with soup cooked on the bridge from locally grown pumpkins, story-telling, street theatre, harvest activities, music, dancing and a magnificent selection of food from exceptional farmers and producers."
The pumpkins come from a Pumpkin Growing competition (poster above).
The River Events are plentiful.
Want to showcase your snapshots, take part in the Photo Competition.
In the Kids department, I noticed The Wishing Tree, a collective creation "made from materials saved from landfill, measuring over 6 metres high. Each side of the tree is built from thousands of boxes designed by London primary school children. The boxes contain their own scene or ‘mini-world’, describing the children’s vision for the future. By day, light filters through these transparent art works, by night it becomes a vivid block of colour."
From 12 to 10pm, near Tate Modern, River Tango brings Buenos Aires music, dance and passion.
Looking for more quiet endeavours, stop by the Walk London tent by the National Theater and Enjoy free guided walks of the River every thirty minutes from the Walk London information stand outside the National Theatre from 12 – 6pm on both days going alternately to Westminster Bridge in one direction and to Millennium Bridge…
I could go on and on yet decided to let you explore the rest of these gargantuan offerings.
If you make it there, send us your snapshots and impressions.
