Recycling does not apply only to newspapers, plastics and computers, fabric and clothing can also get get a second life.
As a young child, I saw my mother turn pieces from grown ups into clothing for us.
She does have a talent for sewing.
I was reminded of these thrifty times by the work of Yoshie.
Hiroshi Sasaki of PingMag describes her visit to the Japanese artist in Yoshie: Applique ‘Til You Drop (October 9, picture of the artist from PingMag).
Yoshie lets her inspiration guide her as whether to use acrylic paint or fabric for her pieces.
As for materials she uses, fabric comes from craft shops as well as from friends. She also gather pieces from trips abroad.
Her picture books cater at times to adults, other times to children.
She also does CD Covers such as Orgooru, Music Box, Vol. 1 (2007).
The Frenchman in me could not pass mentioning her Paris-town (2008) illustration with the Eiffel Tower and the street plaque for Avenue de La Grande Armee.
A good illustration of how you can be creative in a Consumed to Thrifty way.
