If I was going to describe it in a nutshell, I would say that Animal Collective's Eight Album 'Merriweather Post Pavilion' (cover below) is Pink Floyd circa Syd Barrett meets Radiohead.
To add to the confusion the second track 'My Girls' would not have felt out of place on an XTC album, dreamy, slightly weird yet poppy. Another favorite of mine is 'Summertime Clothes'. Some keyboard lines for 'Daily Routine' strangely enough reminded me of Terry Riley's loops…
Let's be honest, I have seen the band's name mentioned repeatedly yet what titillated my interest enough to listen to their latest opus was Ludovic Hunter-Tilney Review of their London, Koko Concert (FT, January 13).
The British press is falling all over themselves over the band as Elisa Bray's Take of the same Koko concert (Independent, January 15) shows.
I agree with their feeling that Too Loud is Too Bad in their Baltimore and "Dirty Hippies"
interview for The Qietus whose picture of the boys (below) I borrowed.
Maybe they'll be able to break the glass ceiling.
The album is coming out in the US on Inauguration Day, January 20th.
