Nicholas Coldicott went looking for drinks at a few fine establishments in Tokyo and Kyoto.
In Hot and tasty to keep you toasty (Japan Times, December 26, 2008) he offers 4 picks.
I noted the Vin Chaud (Mulled Wine) which I remember being served in Brittany in my childhood (not to me by the way).
The recipe he offers is the creation of Koji Ozaki at Radio Bar in Tokyo.
He informs us that "Ozaki uses freshly squeezed orange juice and Grand Marnier and recommends the drink for anyone experiencing the early symptoms of a cold".
The May 2008 Review of Radio Bar by Metropolis Magazine states that "Class is the name of the game at this refined Omotesando eatery", no wonder they've been around since 1972.
I enriched my vocabulary thanks to Norway in Japan which taught me that for Norwegians Mulled Wine goes by the name of Gløgg, not sure how you pronounce it.
If you would rather escape it all and go for Ski and Sushi, Black Tomato suggests a 10 day stay in Hakuba Valley…
