The poetic name might have been what got my attention at first when I saw the double headed man with antlers image on the Green Man Festival site, it did intrigue me.
The Celtic connection (Druids and apple cider) added to my interest.
The Green Man Festival takes place in Glanusk Park, Wales from August 20 to August 23rd with the Sugar Loaf Mountain in the background.
The line up for the 2009 event includes to name the best known, Animal Collective, Roky Erickson, Wilco, Bon Iver.
I would like to find out what Beth Jeans
Houghton, Sound Carriers and She Keeps Bees (from Brooklyn) have to offer.
If you want to beat the evening chill or the rain (if it happens) the Far Out Stage in a circus like tent showcases up and coming talent. Lightspeed Champion which I had a chance to discover at South by Southwest 08 played there.
I found this video of pioneers of the British Folk, Pentangle 'Let no man steal your thyme' there in 2008.
Besides music, I learned through the program notes that "there are also art installations, literature and film tents, Welsh
poetry, art and music, ceilidhs, poetry, theatre, science, comedy,
Nature and Nurture massage area, a daily dusk till dawn bonfire,
impromptu jamming sessions, and the wonderful food stalls offering a
wide range of mouth watering cuisine most of which is locally sourced
and organic."
Outdoors enthusiasts should plan a few days around the festival to enjoy hiking, fishing and other activities available in the nearby Brecon Beacons National Park.
Sounds like a civilized place to be.
