What prompts you to buy a wine you never tried before?
The importer whose taste you trust?
A recommendation from your local store?
The price?
What caught my eye at first with this Sangenis I Vaque 'Priorat' Red Blend (2002) was the label with a sketch of the town of Porrera in Southern Catalonia (Spain) where it comes from.
I fall for scenic views.
Is it because of the older vintage that the wine was priced around $9…what you call moving inventory.
Those wine purveors who carry the Porrera tend to have the 2005 vintage at almost double the price I paid
In any case this blend of 45% Garnacha, 45% Carineña and 10% Syrah delivers.
It is solid with smoky, earthy tones, while softer than many Priorat, blackberries anyone?
