I was browsing the isles atone of my local wine shops when I noticed a lady taking a look at Côté Est Blanc VdP des Côtes Catalanes from Domaine Lafage.
I had a chance to sample both the 2007 and the 2008 vintages at the Polaner tasting in New York back in March and thought that this blend of Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay and Muscat would be perfect for the summer months, crisp with peachy and apricot flavors.
Jean-Marc Lafage (the winemaker) suggested that it could be sipped as an aperitif or served with lunch salads and the like.
Not to forget that it should not set you back much more than $11.
Domaine des Schistes Le Bosc Blanc 2008 (Maccabeu 40 % Grenache Gris 40 % Vermentino 20 %) should be in the same price rangeand is recommended for grilled fish.
Closer to $20 is Domaine Padié – Fleur de Cailloux, also 2008 (Grenache blanc 50%, Grenache gris 30%, Maccabeu 20%), lovely name (Stone Flower) and label, light and refreshing.
You neither need a meal or to be thirsty to drink any of them.
