Reading The business of pets (Japan Times, February 28) and related pieces by Eriko Arita, I was a bit startled to see how far pet owners in Japan go.
She mentions toilet sheets for dogs, vegetarian food for animals good enough for pet owners to sample and cafes that welcome cats and dogs and their owners.
I am not sure what all this does to the psychological well-being of the pets or their owners for that matter.
Melinda Joe wrote a 'review; of Cat Cafes in Tokyo (Bento.com, 2009).
The trend she says started in Osaka in 2004 before it hit Tokyo.
She lists last Neko no Maho (Gotanda)
which stays open until 5:30 AM (illustration above, via Bento.com piece).
