Three wine sub-regions, Martinborough, Gladstone and
Masterton put together make up the Wairarapa wine region.
The region motto of '30 Years in the Glass, 20 thousand years in the making' shows they know how to stay humble.
From 11 AM to 5 PM (New Zealand Time) on March 20th, they celebrate the beginning of the 2010 harvest with the Wairarapa Wines Harvest Festival now in its fourth year.
It will be held (the program says) in a place "called 'The Cliffs' on the banks of the Ruamahunga River at the end of Dakins Road in rural
Wairarapa."
What's on the map besides a day outdoors, meeting people and a bit of music?
Here's a brief take on the event:
restaurants and food producers will showcase their wares set amongst
ancient native trees in the Festival’s spectacular riverside setting in
the popular Wairarapa wine growing area of Gladstone."
No hot dogs, real local fare will be served:
great local food and produce that the Wairarapa has to offer – Rabbit
Pie, Goats Meat Brochette, Ngawi Cod & Crayfish Cakes, Venison
Burgers and Wairarapa Wild Pork & Pistachio Terrine are just some of
the delicacies that have featured on previous menus."
Sounds appetizing but unfortunately I doubt I will secure a plane ticket in time for this happening fiesta.
