I left a lot of ground uncovered as is always the case with tastings after the Discover the flavors of Argentina event on April 15.
Since then the weather has turned warm even humid and I was just thinking how a glass of Torrontes might just do it.
Let's start with the 34 Degrees Torrontes 09 from Carelli (in Mendoza) nice fruit, refreshing, under $10 in the US.
For a couple dollars more, the Don Cristobal Cristobal 1492 Torrontes 09, a bit more structure, good fruit, lite acidity.
Third the Laborum Torrontes 09 Cafayate-Salta) by El Porvenir de Los Andes, possibly my favorite producer at the tasting located at high altitude, warm days, cool nights, quality, around $18.
Laborum means 'from work' which highlights the effort put into the wine, not straw pale but rather a greenish yellow, long finish.
Looking for more concentrated flavors, try the Laborum Late Harvest Torrontes. Lucia told me locals enjoy it with Goat Cheese and Apricots. I went for seconds once I was done with the tasting.
Enjoy on a warm day!
