Some Dads go fishing on Father's Day.
Others like to flex their brain.
If theses brainy dads live in Paris or happen to be there during Father's Day week-end, they will have a chance to play ping pong with ideas and catch a number of authors they only dreamed of seeing up close (or will regret meeting as some of them are bound to disappoint us, unrealistic expectations)
The Shakespeare and Company Literary Festival, festivalandco runs from June 18 to June 20.
The theme for 2010 is Storytelling and Politics described as follows on the program:
influence their environment. What role does the imagination play in the
world today? Who are today’s storytellers and what are the most
influential narratives? Can a work of fiction reflect society without
being political? Do writers have a particular responsibility? Should
literature engage with the world, or offer respite from it? Authors
will discuss these issues amongst others and look at the importance of
literature in our present cultural and political climate."
They also share the cast which is impressive and wordly:
Access to programs is on first come, first served basis, all events in English.
Some Special Events require RSVP, check Program for Details.
Festival takes place in a marquee in the Square René Viviani,
next to Shakespeare & Company.
And it's FREE…
Of course, you don't have to be a father (or a mother) to join in the festivities.
I could not get my hands on festival poster until I found it on Hip Paris Blog thanks to Genevieve Sandifer…
