All I knew when I saw this slice of wine was that I liked the sense of humor that came with it and the piglet on the label.
'La Tranche' ('the slice'), a French organic red wine, is the creation of Philippe Jambon (Mr. Ham) who decided to have fun with his wine and his last name.
He is based in Chasselas as far north as one can be in Beaujolais without crossing into the Maconnais.
Wine is 100% Gamay.
David Faria of Bicephale Buveur (a French wine blog) led me to discover 'La Tranche'. His tasting notes put the robe firmly in Beaujolais country. Tastewise, he picked traces of raspberries, chocolate, spices, a touch of ginger, good texture and balance with a peppery finish (end of tasting translation).
Not sure if the wine is available outside France.
Red meat suggested for food pairing by Mr. Faria.
