Of the 3 wines in the goody box from Domaine de Pellehaut, I would have to say the one that won my heart and my taste buds has to be L'escoubasso, a late harvest white wine of sorts, 100 % Petit Manseng.
In the local patois, l' Escoubasso means the conclusion of a job, a project. In Gascony 'L'Escoubasso' is also the feast that marks the end of the harvest in the vineyards.
This wine, 'LEscoubasso' (2009, 500 ML), echoes all that tradition and the Petit Manseng grapes were the last one to be picked around late October.
Its straw yellow color, hints of tropical fruits combined with a full mouth feel and a touch of sugar make it a good companion for cheese, a Blue cheese neighbor like Roquefort maybe?
Others suggest Foie Gras which in that case should be served between salad and dessert
The End! L' Escoubasso!
