I don't want to leave you with the wrong impression.
This show will not offer art that you can drink and/or eat.
The Eat Drink Art Design exhibit at MAD Museum in New York (Columbus Circle) shares artists takes on objects for the table.
First two names to appear on event page are Roy Lichtenstein with 'Dishes' (1966) and Cindy Sherman set of porcelaine de Limoges (1990) 'Madame de Pompadour (nee Poisson)'.
Seems like most of this tableware was created not only to be displayed but also to be used.
Some of my favorites are Improved! Crockery (cup and saucer) 2000 by Esther Derkx, screen print on used porcelain and Mardi-jo Cohen playful Knife, fork and spoon (1992) with its use of Silver, acrylic, Formica ColorCore, peridot (knife), citrine (fork), cubic zirconia (spoon).
60 objects for eating and drinking by artists will be showcased.
"The exhibition demonstrates the ways in which the table can be a setting for families and feasts, as well as ideas and history."
It might make us reconsider what tea time or dinner should look and feel like.
The exhibit opens on September 21, 2010 and runs until February 6, 2011.
