Making Wool Week a bit edgier, Knitting and Urban Art meet with Knit Graffiti according to Wool Britannia (Guardian, October 10) which suggests that UK is experiencing a graffiti knitting epidemic?
The UK is not the only country affected by this non toxic trend.
A nicely illustrated piece on the topic is Urban Knitting: The World's Most Innofensive Graffiti (Deputy Dog, November 2008) with examples from Stockholm to Monaco and Finland to Syracuse (NY).
The Gas Station Project in Syracuse (above) was spearheaded by the International Fiber Collective founded by artist Jennifer Marsh.
Since Prince Charles is a driving force behind Wool Week and The Campaign for Wool, was he ever tempted to become one of these Graffiti Knitters.
Don't be sheepish. Wool Week has a number of events between including Savile Row Field Day on October 11 and Meet the Sheep on 3 days in 3 locations.
Nothing wrong with soft messages over loud ones.
One group mentioned by The Guardian understood that and changed their name to Stitch London from the original Stitch and Bitch London.
Their blog shares their current obsession with all things John Smedley, call them groupies of the yarm company.
