What happens when 2 former vegetarian girls decide to leave Brooklyn (NY) for the green pastures of Los Angeles?
They open Lindy and Grundy, a fine butcher shop selling local, pastured and organic meats.
With their background, Erica Nakamura and Amelia Posada obviously will not sell hormone filled industrially processed meats.
For them being a butcher is a craft, selling only tasty pieces nicely cut.
Amelia tells us where the beef, pork, lamb and chicken come from…
Here's her top 4:
"Beef: Rancho San Julian 8 generations of cattle ranchers, and Elizabeth Poett is in charge there. She has become a good friend of ours too, 30 yrs old, blonde, tall, gorgeous, think J Crew on a beautiful ranch in cowboy boots. Elizabeth is so amazing, and we hope to grow with this ranch and do business with them always. The ranch is 2 hours north of LA in Lompc, San Barbara County.
Chicken: Rainbow Ranch Farms just outside of LA (eggs and chicken)"
Reride Ranch does not seem to have a web presence beside their Local Harvest page.
Tony C. credits Reride Ranch as the source of L.A's Own Milk Fed Blue Butt, Acorn Fed Berkshire Pigs (Sinosoul, August 30) and gives us a nice tour, pigs included.
Lindy & Grundy (at 801 North Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles) will open for business in February 2011.
Opening Hours will be Tuesday: Saturday 11 am – 8 pm, Sunday: 11 am – 7 pm
