Checking details on an upcoming European Ceramics & Decorative Arts auction offered by Dreweatts 1759 on March 2, 2011, I narrowed my focus on the glass part of it.
I noticed a number of wine glasses some described as Bell Bowl and/or Baluster Goblets.
Many of them are dated to the mid-18th Century. What wines were popular back then?
I wondered if some wine collectors happen to buy collectible glasses and use them on special occasions.
My illustration is Concordia (Lot 181): "A baluster goblet, the round funnel bowl engraved 'Concordia' within a tied wreath, raised on an annular knop, inverted baluster and basal knop stem. c.1740. Height: 162mm." Priced £ 700.00-900.00.
