A week ago I was at the Seriously Cool Chardonnay tasting in New York and since all producers were unknown to me, I took time to get acquainted, capture a bit of their story.
Amongst them was Moray Tawse of Tawse Winery who trusts lambs, ducks and chicken to help keep the vineyards tidy.
This slow lane approach is a good fit for a producer with organic and biodynamic practices.
I tasted 3 of their Chardonnay, two from 2008, Robyn's Block and Quarry Road and one from 2002, Beamsville Bench Reserve, all estate wines.
The 2008 Robyn's Block (VQA Twenty Mile Bench) was my favorite. Barrel fermented, rich mouth feel and lingering finish and a plus for me, low in alcohol at 12,7%.
I hope to have a chance to taste their Cabernet Franc soon.
Tawse Winery will celebrate its 10th Anniversary on June 18, 2011 with an al fresco concert featuring Al Stewart.
