March Madness is not limited to the basketball court.
March has turned into a deluge of tastings.
I am far from catching up on my notes of previous Greek, Alto Adige, Canadian and Burgundy affairs and Monday I will be checking VOS Selections Spring collection in New York.
I enjoy tastings even better when they are paired with seminars that allow you to catch up on new trends, lesser known grape varieties, local history.
I signed up for two of these on Monday.
-First Austria, The Wachau and the Leitha, a Tale of Two Mountains with Rainer Wess (Wachau) and Andi Kollwentz (Burgenland).
Presentation will be illustrated by 2 flights: first flight Gruner Veltliner and Riesling from Wess’ vineyards in the Wachau, second flight a selection of Kollwentz’s wines from a region (Burgenland) known mostly for its Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch.
-Second, Patagonia to Salta, a Study in Terroir, guided by the expert hand of Aldo Sohm we will discuss and taste Wines of Argentina including from emerging regions of Salta (all the way up north) to Patagonia (south).
Another busy day of glass lifting and note scribbling.
We shall see what surprises come along the way on Monday, March 21.
