I am not sure if Festival of Britain has always been a 4 month long event.
If it is the standard, then with its 60th Anniversary in 2011, it will have clocked in an impressive 240 months of events, a full 20 years worth in its history.
Opening Easter week-end (April 22-24) at Southbank Centre runs the gamut from Moroccan acrobatics in Chouf Ouchouf, to Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring with live 3D visuals, plus Indian and South Asian performance. I would personally check Clarinet virtuoso Arun Ghosh presenting his original contemporary soundtrack to The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) by Lotte Reiniger on April 23 at 8 PM.
Culinary fare is one of the stars of Bank Holiday with Real Street Food Market which coincides with Royal Wedding.
Real Street Food Market will start on April 29 and close on May 2. It takes place on Southbank Center Square. Event is Free. Hours are: Friday 11am – 8pm, Saturday 10am – 6pm, Sunday and Monday 12 noon – 6pm…
In a different sphere, program includes Love is what you want, a retrospective of artiste- provocatrice Tracey Emin from May 18 to August 29 at Hayward Gallery.
She offers a new definition to wrapping yourself in the flag.
Festivities for this 60th Edition of Festival of Britain end on September 4, 2011.
One long hot London summer!
