With Urge for Survival, a film retrospective honoring Kaneto Shindo, BAM offers a number of firsts.
Amongst them the U.S theatrical premiere for Children of Hiroshima and the North American premiere of Kaneto Shindo last film, Postcard.

The Urge for Survival: Kaneto Shindo, (April 22-May 5) is an 11-film touring retrospective presented by BAMcinématek and longtime fan Benicio Del Toro and includes The Ditch (1954), Kuroneko (1968), The Life of Chikuzan (1977), Live Today, Die Tomorrow (1970), Lucky Dragon No. 5 (1959), Mother (1963), Onibaba (1964), Tree Without Leaves (1986) and the North American premiere of his newest award-winning film (his 45th!), Postcard.
Retrospective opens on the director's 99th birthday, April 22, 2011.
