A couple weeks ago, I traveled throughout Europe by way of Rose Wines (all 2010) at VOS Selections tasting.
I picked 3 for you.
From Ribera del Gallego (Aragon) a green rose, Rosado by Uncastellum, an organic producer, 60% Tempranillo, 40% Garnacha, strawberry pink, rich fruit, mineral finish.
I then headed for Provence with Classique Rose by Les Quatres Tours, lighter shades, salmon pink,Grenache-Syrah - Cinsault - Cabernet, same berry flavors as Spanish offering, bit more crisp, a thirst quencher.
We move further south in the Mediterranean to Macedonia (Greece) with Akakies by Kir-Yianni, 100% Xynomavro (a source for great Greek reds as well). Drier than previous two and with good acidity, it will pair well with some spicy dishes and Asian food.
Winemaker credits Acacias grown around the Xinomavro vineyards of Amyndeon as inspiration for this wine and notes it is the only Greek AOC rose.
