Many acronyms are often too cryptic to be deciphered.
In the case of TAPAS or Tempranillo advocates producers and amigos society it speaks to its Spanish roots.
The umbrella group is currently getting the buzz out for first International Tempranillo Day on September 1, 2011.
By International organizers mean:
"A celebration of the Tempranillo grape with all its regional synonyms. We are encouraging everyone to open a bottle of Tempranillo, enjoy the fun, and share their experiences online.
Tempranillo, indigenous to Spain and used in the great Rioja and Ribera del Duero wines, is planted in 500,000 acres of the world’s vineyards, making it the fourth most planted wine grape."
So far, public events listed are all on the West Coast. This will surely change as we get closer to September 1.
International Tempranillo Day will prompt me to share impressions on some Tempranillos that landed on my desk recently.
