I hope Molly O'Neill forgives me for waiting until the eve of opening day for the 2012 season of her Virtual Seminars.
First in line is The Hungry I: Food Memoir from January 11 to February 29, 2012
Who might be interested and how does it work?
"Designed for aspiring memoirists as well as writers interested in deploying elements of memoir in essays and articles, the complete seminar includes eight 45 minute lectures, weekly editing of assigned or ongoing work, 7 conference call workshop sessions and one thirty minute private coaching session.
A new lecture or interview is available as a podcast the Wednesday before each scheduled workshop. Participants can choose from two workshop meeting times, Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST beginning January 15 or Tuesdays from 8:00 pm to 9:30 p.m EST beginning January 17."
First session on January 11 is:
The World as I Ate It: Taste, Transcendence & the Insatiable I
A lecture by Molly O’Neill will be followed by a round table discussion featuring Diana Abu-Jaber, Molly Birnbaum, Robert Leleux, Suzannah Lessard and Georgia Pellegrini.
'Season to taste' by Molly Birnbaum and 'Girl Hunter' by Georgia Pellegrini are on my book shelf. I have only scratched the surface on both and not written anything about either.
I don't know if 'The Table Comes First' by Adam Gopnik qualifies as a memoir yet it sets the standard in my eyes as far as what good writing is and does not leave 'pleasure' out of the act of eating.
Cost for full 8 week seminar is $600.
