French band Tapeworms taped ‘Grand Voyage’ then moved to Japan for a planned 1 year stay.
The band was unknown to me until I read The band that turned a pandemic lockdown into a Tokyo dream (Japan Times, April 11) by Patrick St.Michel.
They made a shorter visit to Japan just before Covid closed things done which made them want to return for a longer visit.
2 of the 3 members, Theo Poyer and Margot Magnieres, relocated to Japan in September 2024 using ‘working holiday visas’ that allow you to work part time to cover some of your basic expenses.
Theo and Margot shared a slice of their early weeks in Japan in Grand⁑Voyage①: Caught In-between (October 2024).
As for Tapeworms music, danceable pop with electronics, the Japanese inspiration comes from anime, bands like Pizzicato Five and the Shibuya-kei scene from the 90’s to name a few.
Their album comes out on April 11.
A number of copies of Grand Voyage are listed as available in Limited Edition Vinyl form via Music Website online store. I cannot vouch for their service since I never ordered from them.
