Tuscan based wine producer Querciabella adopted natural farming methods in 1988 and became fully biodynamic in 2000. I have not tasted any of their wines yet.
Their concern for the environment prompted them to start the Bee Biodynamic campaign to save the honeybee.
Their involvement is not limited to advocacy.
They created safe havens for bees by installing beehives on their estates where they can feed off pesticide free plants and flowers. Querciabella planted lavender and other plants that are amongst bees favorites.
They do not harvest the honey.
Rebecca Briggs elaborates on roots of the problem and solutions in Queen of the Sun-Bees in Crisis (Biodynamics Blog, May 2010).
Taggart Siegel and Jon Betz directed and produced film Queen of the Sun. Next screening will be at Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula (Montana) at 10 AM on February 19.
