Contemporary Art gets the royal treatment in London with Frieze Art Fair (October 14-17).
The team at Idea Generation Gallery in collaboration with Absolut invites you to look into artist mind at Absolut Artists Salon over the week-end (October 16-17) at 33, Portland Place.
Why? What? Here's their outline:
"We are running a (free) salon over the Frieze weekend (Saturday and Sunday) to give people to chance to come and meet some amazing artists, see how they work and find out more about the creative process. We're also offering you a drink or two!
Spaces need to be reserved and are limited, so act fast by emailing if you are interested, and saying what day you would like to attend to absolutartistssalon [at] ideageneration [dot] co [dot] uk"
Individual hourly workshops by artists Kate MccGwire, Hugo Wilson, Jodie Carey and Reece Jones will take placew between 12noon and 7pm, seats will be asigned at random.
Another program will run parallel to the hourly workshops:
"In Studio Two, Absolut Vodka collaborates with a group of breakthrough artists including Arran
Gregory, Ann-Marie James, George Morton-Clark and Max Parsons to create an active workshop. As these artists make new work, the public will be invited to join in and get their hands dirty, experimenting with a variety of materials and inspired by their experiences and time with the artists."
I am quite taken by the detailed and fascinating 'feather' creations of Kate MccGwire like 'Evacuate' (2010, below) which I chose for its kitchen setting.
Her work reminds me of Flock by Susie MacMurray of Manchester who I saw patiently 'installing' her own 'feather' creation at Museum of Art and Design (MAD Museum) in New York.
