How about taking a break from the backyard barbecue for Father's Day 2009.
Making music might be a better option as la Fete de la Musique shares the stage with La Fete des Peres.
Walking around town listening to music in every shape and form will for most of us be a more practical choice.
In the Big Apple, Make Music New York and its cool pigeon (below, to paraphrase Kid Creole) is the local take, now in its 3rd Edition.
What is this Fete de la Musique in case you wonder?
Well it is not a Summer chicken anymore as it turns 28 in 2009.
It does reinvent itself with each vintage.
Their official site describes it as follows:
above all a free popular fête, open to any participant (amateur or
professional muicians) who wants to perform in it. This Music day
allows the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere.
It aims at a large audience, working to popularise musical practice for
young and not so young people from all social backgrounds. It gives an
opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through
music."
It is not all about big city dwellers in wealthy countries.
It reaches as far away as Cebu (poster below) in the Philippines I believe.
Africa also joins the party in Gaborone, Botswana reports allAfrica (June 15) even though their party takes place a day earlier.
A global celebration.
