I had this Tuscan Red Blend of Poggiotondo a while back and for whatever reason failed to mention it.
The recipe is 40% Sangiovese and equal parts Merlot and Syrah for the balance.
The vintage I bought was 2004 which actually marked the first offering.
Started in 1969 by Alberto Antonini, Poggiotondo is located in Cerreto Guidi, a village in the Western Part of the Chianti area, whose roots can be traced as far back as the 14th century. It was the holiday home of the Medici.
To get back to The Blend each of the 3 varietals involved is vinified separately in stainless steel then blended together and bottled the Spring following the harvest.
Like all the other wines from the property The Blend reflects terroir married with modern winemaking.
It is a solid red, unfussy, well balanced and can be found for around $10.
