In case you are still scratching your head as to what simple and solid red wines to serve to your guests or bring with you at your friends 4th of July party, here are a couple of things I recently tasted.
Neither are from the US. In fact they come both from Italy.
First is I Sodi Del Paretaio (2005, Chianti) so a Sangiovese (95%), Cork’d gave it a 90 on its review.
You should be able to buy it for around$10.
Second is Rosso Del Dardi, a Red Piedmont Wine (2004) by Alessandro and Gian Natale Fantino, Thanks to Winecamp I found out that it is a blend of Barbera, Nebbiolo and Friesa. A grape I did not know until right now. Craig Camp calls it Perfect with Pizza.
Happy 4th and Sante!
