Nick Paumgarten got the ball rolling on the subject with There and Back Again in The New Yorker then the discussion moved to WNYC and continued with The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Commuter (Wall Street Journal blog ‘The Informed reader‘).
Anne Zelenka has her take on the topic on Web Worker Daily, adding to the subject the perspective of the home based business or telecommuters who need to go out for social interaction.
This week, I filled my quota of social interactions, yesterday my accountant (try not to do my taxes at the last minute) and today…the dentist…
I will try to find more fun things to do this week.
To get back to the commute issue, the train has my vote. Usually on time, less stress, more comfortable.
As for getting ‘quality of life’ back into our days, maybe if we cut down on the interruptions, we could spend less time working.
Browsing around the web, I noticed that the topic of Commuting was on the map in April of last year, at the end of the month though. It must be seasonal.
To lighten up a bit, I suggest you check this Best Albums for my Long Commute list by Jim Donahue on Amazon.
Mostly classic rock ( I hate that term) I have to say.
