The side of me that says vanity makes me check who reads my blog so I was intrigued when I noticed a view of my post Jet Girl, shopping by Private Jet linking back to The Telegraph website in the UK or more precisely to The year of living frugally: how 10 friends survived without shopping by Catherine Elsworth.
Her piece (published today) is the antithesis of the theme of ‘Jet Girl…‘ It tells the story of 10 San Francisco middle class professionals who pledged about 12 months ago to try to give up shopping.
They founded a Yahoo Group named The Compact to bring other people into the conversation.
About 4000 people (including some from Brazil and Britain according to Catherine Elsworth) have done so at last count.
They also write Compact a weblog.
Funny how it brings back a conversation I had with my teenage son last night on how there is meaning in life beyond getting things (the thing in question was the Nintendo Wii that he has not gotten yet).
So check The Article and The Compact. It is always good to look at both sides of the coin.
