Users Manuals, Bring a Translator Please

Bought any new phone, digital camera, MP3 player, even toys or furniture that requires assembly? Have you not being baffled by the ‘unclear’ directions as to how to assemble the last ones. Did you feel overwhelmed by the 100 plus page book that comes with anything digital?
I think many manufacturer should start by hiring someone who can write a clear and accurate manual on how to use (or assemble) their products, focusing on the main points first and putting all the additional functions in the second part.
Jonathan Margolis in ‘The Game’s Bond‘ (Financial Times Week End, today) suggests that we have Technology Bonding Weekends. He comes up with the conclusion that taking the time to sit down and actually go through the manuals might make us want to abandon some of our digital ‘helpers’ once we discover their shear complexity.
