Uncertain times are upon us again.
Time to pull ‘old’ books from the shelves and re-read them or discover them as new.
Let me put A Field Guide to Getting Lost by Rebecca Solnit (which I have not read) in that pile.
Josh Lacey titled his May 5, 2006 review for The Guardian as Loosing the plot, not the place .
He offers that Rebecca Solnit “is fascinated by how and why people get lost and, more importantly, what happens when they are found, find themselves or decide to stay lost. “
As for her approach to writing he thinks that “walking seems like a good image for her method as a writer: reading her prose is like spending time in the company of an earnest, determined hiker who disdains maps but nevertheless knows some unexpected and fascinating fact about every house, hill or tree that you pass.“
