I usually organize a Bastille Day party and invite people over. This year instead we went to the ‘Bastille Day on 60th Street Fete’ in New York City organized by the French Institute Alliance Francaise. My wife, younger son and I met some friends and their daughters for Lunch at Bistro 60 right in the middle of the action. When we arrived, the wine was already selected, Sancerre for the white which proved perfect on a warm and humid day and Chateau Prieure Lichine for the Red. The 2006 Summer Restaurant Week is now in full swing so ‘Bistro 60’ offered a Bastille Day 3 Course menu for $20.06 (plus tax and gratuity) which we picked as our friends were already finishing their main dish. My wife had a house salad, cold poached salmon with a cucumber salad. I chose the vichyssoise, coq au vin and we both had creme caramel. My son had a taste of our food and saved some room for profiterolles.
We then walked over to Central Park for a little African Music courtesy of Summerstage and were treated to an energetic set besides the heat by Daby Toure which is not compared for nothing to Salif Keita. His voice and music blend also made me think of Gilberto Gil.
All in all it was a perfect relaxing sunday.
