Conflicting (cold and warm) air masses bring a rainy season to Japan. It starts early May in Okinawa but only recently hit the Tokyo region.
It is also called Plum Rain both in Japan and China as it corresponds to the season when plums ripen. Showers and thunderstorms can be expected until late July.
