Much of the attention of late has been focused on (un)real estate lately at least here in the US.
With the 6th anniversary of September 11 tomorrow I thought that some other things would be worth thinking about.
Doing good could be one of them so when I learned of the launch of Stuff Your Rucksack by Kate Humble (a BBC reporter) who surely has seen her share of needy people, I knew it had to be mentioned.
She kept things simple.
Local organizations in developing countries post stuff they need on Stuff Your Rucksack. Potential donors can visit the site before a trip and see what they can contribute.
Both parties need to register first.
Ordinary things such as school supplies, used mobile phones that are sitting in a drawer gathering dust for example can make a difference in others lives.
Stuff Your Rucksack just launched so many countries to not list any organizations yet.
I am sure it will expand quickly.
Here is how they outline their work: "It’s not about taking sweets and pens to encourage children to beg; nor is it about handing out money to people who might tell a good story but whose scruples are far from good.
It is about helping small, legitimate organizations that get little or no help from their government or from local or international NGO’s.
It’s about travelers helping other travelers to give practical assistance to people who have the least, but often give the most."

Hi – thanks for the mention! It’s great to see so much interest from the USA – we’re really hoping that the site will help ordinary travellers make a big difference. At th end of the day, it’s not about the site – it’s all about the people who make an effort and take something with them when they travel.
Thanks again!
