Maybe you just need a change of scenery to feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
It might not be too late to book your picnic table for late next week at the Hog Island Oyster Farm in Tomales Bay, 40 miles Northwest of San Francisco (see map).
Call them for a Picnic Reservation. Cost per person is $8 (week-ends) and $5 (weekdays).
The fee includes a shucking tool set, lemons for your oysters, a picnic table and access to a grill. As a bonus you get unlimited fresh air.
Hog Island Oyster Farm was founded in 1983 by three marine biologists and now produces some 3 million oysters a year.
If you cannot make it there check their Mignonette recipe named the Hog Wash, must like cilantro and rice wine vinegar.
Don’t like Cilantro, the Washington Post offers a Shallot and Sherry Vinegar version.
Ming’s Pantry suggests Belon or Kumamoto oysters with a Fennel-Coriander version.
If you cannot save half a day for a picnic, you might at least have got some cooking inspiration.
