Not all dwellings are made of concrete and steel. Some people still turn mud into bricks.
Beyrouth born architect and mud brick expert Salma Samar Damluji shares her knowledge of the topic in an exhibition titled The Architecture of Yemen.
It runs until February 9 at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London.
It was staged to celebrate the publication of her book The Architecture of Yemen (pictured here,
Lawrence King Publishing, in the UK).
She splits her time between London and Masna’ah (Yemen) where she is working on a small hotel slash cultural center.
She also co-wrote The Art of Moroccan Ceramics with John Hedgecoe.
At 51, she is one of those Just Over 50 and Not Dead Yet, active and creative.
