We are not talking about being cheap for the sake of being cheap here, more like stretching your dollar over Europe without leaving ugly marks all over the scene.
Call it down shifting if you will.
Tim Leffel comes up with money saving strategies that can work in Germany, Italy and other destinations in Stretching the Dollar in Europe (Budget Traveler, April 2008).
One thing to remember, plan ahead.
Buying tickets for the TGV a month in advance Tim says could cut the cost in half.
Other money saving tips include sleeper trains such as The Bargain Berth on ScotRail’s Caledonian Sleepers for around $40 (between London Euston & Scotland) and cabins on overnight boat trips in Scandinavia or between that region and the UK through DFDS Seaways, one less hotel night.
Many of these, not to forget budget car rentals could save you a bundle or allow you to extend your vacation.
Don’t spend all your time budgeting.
Same some for fun things!
