In collaboration with the Bored at Work Network, Brian Lehrer (WNYC) asked listeners to contribute answers to What’s the smartest thing your company is doing to cope with inflation? And what’s the dumbest?
What actually got my attention as much as the topic was the following advice: "By the way, don’t get yourself fired: be anonymous or evasive about
your identity or your employer’s if needed to protect yourself!"
Following this bit of advice is plain common sense yet with the proliferation of social networking sites and the like, some of us tend to forget that like slugs in the garden we can leave a mark of our passage.
Except our slimy friends path can be washed away by the next rainfall. The online tracks are here to stay.
Columnist Anita Bruzzese asked Psssttt….Can GenYers Keep a Secret? (45 Things, June 29)…
She spoke with Marian Salzman who "noted that with the “total transparency” this generation practices, it
can be a bit tricky getting them to keep their mouths shut – and their
fingers away from typing or texting everything and anything they know
or think".
As with many other things when sharing opinions on work you should think of how and where you do it.
Depending on the country where you live and work, attitudes might differ as I mentioned in On Culture Clash, Dry Humor…Business Down Under…
I would expand my observations to commenting online in general.
Try to stay on topic and keep it civil.
I do not hesitate to discard rude comments.
