No ‘Divine Comedy’ or ‘Comedie Humaine’ here!
I don’t intend to travel to Napa Valley for the Bottle Shock Movie Premiere.
The only reason I know about it is an e-mail from Margie Tosch (Wine and Hospitality Network) who sent An Offer to Win Tickets to the screening at a local winery.
Her note put the movie on my radar.
The movie is loosely based on the tasting (May 1976) in which a pair
of California wines beat some of France’s most celebrated reds and
whites. It is known as the Judgment of Paris and Mike Steinberger wrote about what he thought The French didn’t learn from the legendary wine-tasting on the 30th anniversary for Slate.
As for Bottle Shock the movie, judgments are mixed, movie and entertainment critics seem to like it.
Some food and wine aficionados such as Adam Lechmere (Decanter) think it takes too much liberty with the topic.
The trailer below shows a comedy of wine.
The movie comes to a theater near you (in the U.S) on August 5th.

The Historic 1976 Paris Tasting That Revolutionized Wine, a book by George Taber.

I can easily say that this is one of the best movies of the past few years. The acting is superb, very deep, and the characters are very real. I’d say that if i had to have a job running a winery, I’d probably have to work at Chateau Montelena in Napa Valley.
