As I was starting the Grassroots campaign to get Votes for my Consumed to Thrifty Panel at South by Southwest, singer Samantha Murphy got a thread going on the Pholist, the topic: Songs about Money.
Since I did not have to jump in the conversation early, many of my first choices were taken.
I did manage to come up with a few fresh picks.
First came to mind The Beatles ‘Can’t buy me love’
Then I remembered an old kitch French hit titled ‘L’argent ne fait pas le bonheur’ (Money does not buy happiness).
Could not remember who sang that tune and found out it was a girl group from the Seventies named ‘Les Parisiennes (see their clip below).
There is a French Rap version (2008) by Profet.
Going way back in time, another song I listed was the Andrews Sisters ‘Working for the Yankee Dollar’
Any obscure suggestions of your own in English or other languages? Share them.
An insouciant, lightheated bit for the week-end!
Some other good songs about money (and happiness) are:
Money (That’s What I Want) by the Beatles.
Money Money Money by Abba.
Money Can’t Buy It by Annie Lennox
