Some of those attending the Culinary Institute of America in Greystone add new meaning to ‘Grow your Own’.
Tara Duggan in Culinary students learn to love cooking green (SF Gate, August 15) tells us that "Students in the Green Thumbs club help weed and harvest the
school’s handful of pesticide-free vegetable plots, attend lectures on
farming, and cook with the produce they grow".
She also informs us that they man a stand at the St Helena’s Farmer’s Market where they offer some of their produce as well as cooking tips.
In Southern California, Green Truck (from Culver City) delivers Organic Food on the Go with Veggie Oil Powered Trucks and their Commissary is Solar Powered.
I found out about them via Inhabitat.

A basic thing most of us should remember whether we are a home or professional cook is to reduce waste.
It is considered that in the US from 10% to 20% of all food purchased ends up in the garbage?
Too good to waste!
