Since loosing what constituted a good chunk of my income a few weeks back, I have not been idle.
I describe my situation as under-employed.
I was updating my friend Kerul Kassel, a career and life coach and author of 'Stop Procrastinating Now', on my efforts building my 5 Leg Stool (if one breaks you do not fall on your face).
Besides highlighting the positives in what I had done so far she brought up something I might not have thought of, 'Have a strategy for when you get discouraged'.
Whether you are going through career or personal changes, write a book, a blog, train for a marathon or whatever you strive for, there will be moments of doubt and times when you feel discouraged?
One way to combat that might be to write a friend or a colleague as I did. Meeting someone for lunch or going to an exhibit or a lecture could be the refresher you need.
Sometimes you just need to leave things alone for a while like when I make my crepe batter and let it sit for 30 minutes before I get cooking.
Scott H. Young suggests that success depends on The Effort Threshold (Get more from life, March 09).
Two of the 5 measures he offers:
write at least 500,000 words. If you want to become a good writer, I’d
put in at least 5,000,000 words. I’ve written about 600,000 words for
this blog, and I’m still far below the effort threshold needed for
great writing.
Online Business – Going from nothing to full-time income should take at least 2-3 years.
I am not sure that we all learn at the same pace, let's compare that to The Tortoise and the Hare.
On some level, he's got a point.
It's not so much about trying harder than putting the right amount of effort into it and learning when to take a break.
